Review - Slaughter of the Mountain Man - 5 stars

The Johnstone conglomerate (William and J.A.) have written another episode about Kirby “Smoke” Jensen in Slaughter of the Mountain Man. This story follows a well-beloved character – Smoke Jensen. There are a few interesting twists here as Smoke gets involved in several plots including one to set up a kingdom ruled by a king in the Western part of the country.

Add in a protective detail for President Hayes and his family and staff including General Sherman. This story has lots of disparate elements leading to a fun read.  It follows the traditional western story development with a few extra twists thrown in to keep the suspense alive.

What is not different is that Smoke and his partners remain great shootists and dedicated to making sure that the West is a safe place for everyone- even a President that he did not vote for.  This recognizes the basic goodness of this man who wants a place where people don’t have to live in fear or be great with the gun.

The evil, would be king, has a great plan that might have worked without a hitch except for Smoke’s intervention.  Since no king likes to be thwarted, it is obvious that Jensen and his crew need to be handled in a lethal way.  Time will tell who wins this battle of wills and guns.

A good read that is most enjoyable, especially if you have read about Smoke before but even if this is the first story you have read about him,  I suspect it will not be your last!
